“ Embracing sustainable and green principles is not just a trend. Seriously cultivating sustainability helps organizations become more efficient, competitive and profitable. It’s more than simply ’a good thing to do’. ”

The recently published ‘2021 Sustainable Travel Report by Booking.com’ reveals that 83% of global travelers think sustainable travel is vital, with 61% saying the pandemic has made them want to travel more sustainably in the future. 49% still believe that there aren’t enough sustainable travel options available, with 53% admitting they get annoyed if somewhere they are staying stops them from being sustainable.

We certainly understand that hoteliers are often concerned that the integration of “eco” measures into their operations will result in diluted services and amenities. This is certainly not the case anymore and we can show you that sustainability and excellent guest experience can go hand in hand.

The enhanced efficiency of using resources will even boost profit margins significantly.

Bigger hotel groups have a competitive edge over smaller, independent hotels in introducing group-wide sustainability programs, due to their larger infrastructure in all aspects.

Independent hoteliers are struggling with limited resources and knowledge how sustainability is translated into their specific organization. We would therefore like to offer our assistance to those smaller organizations to close such gap.

Our three-phase approach for independent hotels includes:

  • Reviewing current efforts (if any)

  • Assessing any business according to the ’Shoreline Sustainability Concept’ , which includes a total of 400 points

  • Developing a strategy on how to implement sustainability standards, starting with the ones most relevant for the business and with the biggest impact

  • Providing the best PR / marketing practices ensuring all measures are properly communicated moving forward

  • Providing a recommendation whether a third-party certification can make sense (Green Globe, Green Key, Earth Check, Leed) and if there are any applicable marketing associations which could be joined for additional exposure

  • Guiding our clients through the jungle of options and explaining the pros & cons as well as related costs (also refer to slide 9 for an overview of the most common options)

After the initial audit, we can certainly discuss opportunities for a possible cooperation long-term to ensure all measures are being implemented accordingly.
